OUR PULP PREPARATION RANGE
PETROFER offers a portfolio of products, compliant with local regulations (e.g. Bfr), for pulp stock preparation, and the wet end of production, optimising the process of paper making, and the final paper product quality. SOFTENERS & DEBONDERS improve surface and bulk softness leading to improved hand-feel in finished hygiene papers. For the pulper, PETROFERs range of BIOREFINING ENZYMES target fibre modifications, improving dewatering, enhancing tensile strength and save refiner and drying energy. REPULPING AIDS enable reprocessing fibre and increase yield in the repulping process of high wet strength broke, whilst reducing energy demand. Our extremely efficient CONDITIONERS & STICKY CONTROL chemicals treat wire and felt sticky and pitch contaminations.

We continuously respond to new ideas, technologies and processes and so test new materials to improve our products and extend our portfolio. We also continually recognize the need for sustainability and reduced environmental impact with paper making chemistry.
OUR PRODUCT RANGE IN DETAIL
SOFTENERS & DEBONDERS
Softness in tissue paper is the clearest sign of quality for the end-user. PETROFER offers a wide range of softeners and debonders to improve surface softness, bulk and handfeel of tissue products. Our products of the SOFTLAYER series comprise of different chemical bases with special functionalities to provide the best possible solution for every type of pulp, water condition and use of other application equipment. All products are ready to use.
BIOREFINING ENZYMES
The refining process is one of the most energy consuming factors in paper production. Enzymes are the most efficient and ecological way for the chemical fibre modification. Less shortening of fibres through mild enzyme treatment allows the application of a higher rate of short fibres, leading to enhanced tensile strength. The application generates savings in refiner and dryer energy while potentially allowing higher machine speed. PETROFERs series PETROZYM STR offers enzyme formulations for different varieties of pulp and physical conditions in the pulp preparation.
REPULPING AIDS
The repulping of waste paper is a growing requirement since it saves valuable resources and disposal costs, while recognizing paper fibre sustainability. The challenge of repulping high wet strength broke is effectively solved by PETROFER offering an oxidative treatment through our DE-COTAC products as well as an enzymatic solution with our PETROZYM REP series. Our products improve the fiber recovery content, time efficiency and yield. Additionally, energy in the repulping process is reduced by dissolving the bondings between wet strength agents and leading to an excellent final sheet formation.
CONDITIONERS & STICKY CONTROL FOR THE MASS
Stickies and pitch are issues in the paper industry which influence the overall machine efficiency. They are comprised of tacky deposits with often thermoplastic properties and occur in paper machines using recycled paper as a source of fibres. Origins can be printing inks, coating binders, waxes, hot melt adhesives, plastics, wet strength resins and other additives. A contamination of this kind can lead to clogged wires, reduction of felt performance and subsequently to breaks, holes and spots in the paper. With PETRORUN as a solution for the problem, PETROFER solves this issue by dispersing of agglomerates before they can cause concern.
APPLICATION EXAMPLES
Customers face ever increasing energy costs. One of the most energy consuming steps in paper production is the refining process. Here, fibres are mechanically treated to reach a higher surface activity resulting in the formation of more hydrogen bonds. Subsequently, a higher dry strength is achieved. A major global tissue producer was challenged by the marketplace to supply finished products with a higher softness. The use of PETROFER’s enzyme technology helped achieve these goals by allowing an increased usage of short fibres, and provide the market with more desirable finished products with a higher profit return for the maker. Furthermore, an energy saving of approximately 30% in refiner energy was achieved through the use of the product. In addition to the financial savings, our customer could achieve a reduced carbon footprint by the use of enzymes, as the overall environmental impact is reduced.
